The Global COE Hi-Stat Receives Top Mark
The results of the interim evaluation of Global COE Programs have been released by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Our Program was given the evaluation rank of “A.” This is the best rank, meaning that “by continuing the current effort, it should be possible to achieve the project's original objectives.” The Global COE Hi-Stat Program was also chosen as one of the two “outstanding” research units among 14 units in the social sciences.

Professor Emeritus Osamu Saito at Hitotsubashi University, visiting fellow of the Global COE Hi-Stat Program and the leader of its predecessor, the 21st Century COE program “Research Unit for Statistical Analysis in the Social Sciences,” has been awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Cabinet Office of the Japanese Government for his outstanding work on economic and population history of Japan in comparative perspective.
